Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole Speaks at the National
Law Enforcement Training on Child Exploitation (Excerpt)
Even as we recognize we have much more to do if we are to keep all of
our children safe, it is appropriate to also take account of how far
we have come in protecting our children. From the Department of
Justice’s perspective, our efforts have dramatically increased over
the last several years. For example, the Department launched Project
Safe Childhood (PSC) in 2006 to combat the proliferation of
technology-facilitated crimes involving the sexual exploitation of
children. The Department expanded PSC in May of 2011 to encompass all
federal crimes involving the sexual exploitation of a minor, including
domestic prostitution of children, international travel for sex with
children, child sexual exploitation in Indian country, and failure to
register as a sex offender. In each federal district around the
country, PSC coordinates efforts to protect our children by the
development of a network of federal, state, local, and tribal law
enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations dedicated to
the investigation and prosecution of offenders involved in the sexual
exploitation of minors.
Sprint Recycling Program Helps NCMEC Keep Kids Safer Online
Sprint (NYSE:S) has been a longtime partner of the National Center for
Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and provided support for the
popular youth-focused Internet-safety website www.NSTeens.org. Sales generated from recycled wireless phones, batteries, accessories and data cards received by Sprint's charitable phone-recycling program, Sprint Project Connect, are used to fund new content to the NSTeens.org site and other free Internet-safety resources available from NCMEC. This is the fifth year Sprint has partnered with NCMEC to help keep kids safer online.

Report to Congress Indicates MO ICAC Success
The US Department of Justice has released The National Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction – A Report to Congress. We are proud to highlight a few of the MOICAC statistics from the report, which are for FY 2008 and the first six months of 2009. MOICAC ranks first in the nation for computer forensics (5% of all exams), second in the nation for arrests (6% of all arrests nationally), second in training its officers (10% of all training), ninth in technical assistance to local officers, and twentieth in the amount of federal grant funds. The success of the Missouri ICAC Task Force described in this report is entirely due to the exceptional work being conducted by investigators, forensic examiners and prosecutors across the state.
